Accra:Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, may invest up to $750 billion in expanding its computing capacity in the coming years as it gears up for an initial public offering (IPO). This information was detailed in a report from The Wall Street Journal.
According to Anadolu Agency, the $750 billion figure includes negotiations still underway, as cited from a draft IPO prospectus. Anthropic, known for developing the Claude AI assistant, reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, a significant increase from the $13 billion loss during the same period the previous year.
About $72 billion of the recent losses were attributed to accounting charges from changes in the value of convertible notes and other financial instruments. In the first half of the year, Anthropic's spending on computing capacity and infrastructure amounted to nearly $9 billion, up from $2.3 billion the year before, surpassing the $7.3 billion expenditure for 2025.
The draft prospectus outlines computing agreements totaling approximately $450 billion over the next seven to ten years, with most being non-cancelable. The planned spending includes $111 billion on Google Cloud contracts, $110 billion with Amazon Web Services, and $31 billion with Microsoft.
Anthropic is anticipated to file IPO documents publicly in the coming weeks, aiming to secure additional funding for chips, data centers, and staff necessary to advance its AI models. The prospectus also noted potential risks associated with AI systems, such as models potentially attempting to avoid shutdown or producing responses similar to blackmail.
The report also highlighted political challenges related to data center construction in the U.S., where Anthropic's main computing capacity is located, as a possible risk factor.
