Ankara: Arab nations have united in strong condemnation following remarks by US Ambassador to Tel Aviv, Mike Huckabee, which expressed support for Israeli control over the entire Middle East, including the occupied West Bank. Huckabee’s comments, described as ‘absurd and provocative,’ have been deemed unacceptable and in violation of international law.
According to Anadolu Agency, Huckabee made these statements during an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson. He justified Israel’s claim to the land from the Nile to the Euphrates rivers by referencing biblical rights, suggesting that Israel’s control over this territory would be justified. Huckabee further defended Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip and supported the concept of ‘divine providence’ granting Israel sovereignty over the region.
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry responded to Huckabee’s remarks by labeling them a violation of diplomatic norms and an infringement on state sovereignty. The comments contradict the position of US President Donald Trump regarding the annexation of the occupied West Bank. Jordan called for efforts to stabilize Gaza and implement the US president’s plan alongside UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also condemned Huckabee’s statements, describing them as a departure from international law and the UN Charter. Cairo highlighted that these remarks contradict President Trump’s vision and a related 20-point framework designed to resolve the Gaza conflict. Egypt reiterated its stance against Israel’s sovereignty over Palestinian land or other Arab territories and rejected attempts at annexation or settlement expansion.
Saudi Arabia joined in condemning Huckabee’s remarks, which they deemed reckless and dismissive of longstanding US-Arab relations. The Saudi Foreign Ministry stressed that such comments threaten international peace and security and urged the US State Department to clarify its position. Saudi Arabia emphasized that peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Kuwait and Iraq’s Foreign Ministries echoed similar sentiments, condemning Huckabee’s comments as violations of international law and affirming their support for Palestinian self-determination. Both countries underscored the importance of respecting international resolutions and maintaining state sovereignty.
Oman’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the remarks, warning of their potential to undermine peace prospects and regional stability. Oman reiterated its support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders.
Huckabee, appointed as US ambassador to Israel in April 2025, has previously advocated for expansionist claims based on a perceived ‘divine right’ for Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also expressed attachment to the vision of a Greater Israel, which entails territorial expansion into the West Bank, Gaza, and other areas.
