Ankara: The Armenian foreign minister announced that Trkiye and Armenia have a mutual understanding that the ultimate objective of their discussions is to achieve full normalization of relations, which includes establishing diplomatic ties and opening borders.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ararat Mirzoyan, speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, highlighted his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, emphasizing the focus on bilateral relations and regional developments. Mirzoyan articulated that both nations aim to fully normalize relations, which encompasses diplomatic recognition and border opening.
The dialogue between the two countries is not limited to diplomatic relations and border openings; it also includes discussions on significant trade potential, joint energy projects, and transit opportunities. Additionally, cooperation on international platforms has been considered, as both countries share similar perspectives on certain Middle Eastern issues.
Mirzoyan mentioned that tangible steps have been taken in areas like airspace usage, and discussions have occurred concerning the Margara-Alican border crossing and Gyumri-Kars railway. However, he acknowledged that some agreements, such as opening the border for third-country nationals and diplomatic passport holders, have yet to be implemented.
Regarding relations with Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan announced that a "historic and unprecedented" peace agreement is ready to be signed. He addressed Azerbaijan's condition to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group, suggesting that if no conflict exists, the group is unnecessary. Mirzoyan expressed Armenia's willingness to sign both the peace agreement with Azerbaijan and the document to dissolve the Minsk Group simultaneously.
Mirzoyan also responded to Azerbaijan's demand for a constitutional amendment in Armenia concerning territorial integrity, asserting that sufficient guarantees already exist. He confirmed that recognition of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity would be part of the peace agreement. Following the agreement's signing, Mirzoyan stated that Armenia would no longer require an EU monitoring mission.
