Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizes Cardiovascular Surgery in Trkiye

Istanbul: Experts have indicated that the expanding use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cardiovascular surgery allows doctors to determine surgical techniques days before an operation and reduces the duration of operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Umit Kervan, president of the Health Institutes of Trkiye (TUSEB), explained that scientists are closely monitoring technological advancements in medicine to ensure optimal patient care.

"Today, we use technological and AI-powered devices as well as related software, particularly in imaging methods," said Kervan. He highlighted that, unlike in the past when surgical techniques were decided during the operation, three-dimensional imaging technologies now enable surgeons to determine the surgical method beforehand. This advancement allows for better patient communication and preparation before heart and main vessel procedures.

Kervan further emphasized how AI is facilitating surgeons' work by enabling remote patient monitoring and treatment, thanks to new software and mobile apps. These innovations help reduce hospital workloads, shortening operation durations, decreasing complications, and allowing patients to be discharged sooner, with the possibility of home monitoring.

Additionally, AI technology aids surgeons in focusing on lesions invisible to the naked eye, reducing the risk of missing critical details and enhancing decision-making precision. Kervan noted the collaborative efforts between engineers and healthcare professionals in Trkiye in developing medical software, shifting the country towards being a producer of technology in healthcare.

He also mentioned that domestic software now enables patient monitoring not only within Trkiye but also for those receiving treatment abroad, showcasing the global applicability of these technological advancements.
