Aselsan Unveils Low Earth Orbit Satellite Constellation

Antalya:Turkish defense firm Aselsan has introduced its latest low Earth orbit communications satellite constellation at the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026) held in Antalya.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Gokbagi (Astralink) satellite network is designed to provide rapid communications services applicable to military, public, and civilian sectors. Aselsan's CEO, Ahmet Akyol, announced plans to commence satellite launches for the constellation in the coming years.

The Gokbagi project, presented for the first time at the congress, was developed from the chip level up, showcasing Turkey's push for space technology independence. The project features satellite receivers utilizing active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology to enhance ground services by tracking satellites digitally.

Aselsan also displayed its Gokturk-3 synthetic aperture radar satellite, capable of capturing high-resolution images through dense clouds. The company has invested in expanding its space manufacturing infrastructure and is embracing advancements like artificial intelligence in space systems.

Ahmet Akyol highlighted the significance of events like TEKNOFEST, where young competitors showcased their satellite innovations, aligning with Aselsan's technological achievements and contributions to Turkey's capabilities in space technology.
