Kyiv: At least two people were killed in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv after a massive, coordinated overnight barrage of Russian drones and cruise and ballistic missiles targeted cities and critical infrastructure across the country, officials said Tuesday. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 10 others were wounded in the attacks, with five of them hospitalized, including two in critical condition.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Ukrainian Air Force issued urgent alerts throughout the night as waves of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and high-speed ballistic missiles targeted the city. Air defense officials repeatedly urged residents to seek immediate shelter. In the wider Kyiv region, the State Emergency Service reported that Russian forces launched drone strikes targeting Boryspil and Fastiv districts. The attacks ignited fires at industrial enterprises in the Boryspil area, where a blaze destroyed seven trucks. Rescuers also responded to a logistics complex that was struck twice, successfully extinguishing all fires at the scene.
Klitschko also mentioned that a fire broke out in warehouses and on the territory of a private school in Holosiivskyi district. He confirmed that other fires broke out in non-residential areas of Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that emergency workers rescued 13 additional residents trapped across the city. There is currently no official information regarding casualties outside the capital.
In Holosiivskyi, a blast wave struck the 23rd floor of a 26-story non-residential building, and rescuers saved two people locked inside a 16-story apartment building and another person near a burning garage. In Solomianskyi district, emergency teams rescued 10 residents trapped in a five-story residential building, while firefighters extinguished fires in warehouses, private garages, and vehicles in Podilskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts.
The strikes extended far beyond the capital, hitting key regions such as Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. Russian tactical aircraft also released KABs, guided aerial bombs, to strike frontline positions and civilian structures in eastern regions.
The independent verification of the claims remains difficult due to the ongoing war. The strikes mark a continuation of hostilities as attacks resumed following a three-day temporary ceasefire that was observed during a recent visit to the region by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
