At Least 25 Killed in Passenger Boat Tragedy in Nigeria

Ankara: At least 25 people have lost their lives in a tragic incident where a passenger boat capsized on a river in Niger state, Nigeria. The boat was reportedly ferrying marketgoers from the Munya region and tragically sank in the Shiroro area, leaving many missing.

According to Anadolu Agency, the authorities have initiated search and rescue operations. However, the officials have cautioned that the death toll may rise as efforts continue to locate and rescue the missing individuals. An official involved in the operation mentioned that the number of passengers on board at the time of the accident has not yet been disclosed.

Boat accidents are a common occurrence in Nigeria, especially during the rainy season, as rivers and lakes are frequently used for transportation. The latest tragedy underscores the ongoing challenges faced in ensuring safe travel on these waterways.
