Canberra: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized on Tuesday the significance of Canberra's relationship with Beijing, highlighting its importance for the country's economy, security, and regional stability. Albanese articulated these points through a statement on US social media platform X, underscoring the foundational bonds between the two nations' peoples.

According to Anadolu Agency, Albanese's remarks followed a visit by China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, to Canberra. Zhao's visit, which spanned from Saturday to Tuesday, was at the invitation of Australia's Senate Speaker Sue Lines and House Speaker Milton Dick. During his visit, Zhao expressed China's willingness to advance a more mature, stable, and productive strategic partnership with Australia.

Zhao's itinerary included meetings with Australia's Governor-General Samantha Mostyn and a working breakfast with Prime Minister Albanese. He also engaged in discussions with Lines and Dick. Zhao emphasized that there is no fundamental conflict of interests between China and Australia, and he expressed Beijing's eagerness to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including energy, mineral resources, scientific and technological innovation, digital economy, and infrastructure.

The discussions between the two sides also covered potential bilateral cooperation in areas such as the economy, trade, culture, education, energy transition, and climate change.
