Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to allocate $2 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as the conflict with Russia approaches its three and a half year mark.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decree, published on Azerbaijan's presidency website, specifies that the funds will be allocated to the Energy Ministry for the purchase and shipment of locally-produced electrical equipment, with financing coming from the president's reserve fund under the 2025 state budget.

The decree also mandates Azerbaijan's Finance Ministry to facilitate the specified funding. It highlights Azerbaijan's history of providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. The decree mentions that Azerbaijan has extended humanitarian assistance to various countries on both bilateral and multilateral platforms, emphasizing principles of humanism.

Additionally, President Aliyev recently discussed bilateral relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a phone call. Azerbaijan has previously contributed $42 million towards Ukraine's recovery efforts, as stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
