Baku: Azerbaijan and Georgia held high-level discussions Thursday aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili met in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, to discuss political, economic, and humanitarian aspects of their countries' strategic partnership as well as regional issues.

According to Anadolu Agency, Bayramov informed Botchorishvili about post-conflict reconstruction, demining, and peace efforts as well as challenges to lasting peace in the South Caucasus. These discussions were part of a broader dialogue on regional security matters of mutual interest. Bayramov emphasized the importance of international law and territorial integrity, noting Azerbaijan's support for Georgia's sovereignty.

Bayramov addressed the ongoing issues with Armenia, highlighting Azerbaijan's efforts to restore territorial integrity following the 44-day Patriotic War and recent anti-terror operations. Despite past conflicts, Azerbaijan has proposed a peace treaty with Armenia to ensure stability in the South Caucasus.

Botchorishvili expressed the significance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, highlighting the strong friendship between their peoples. She reiterated Georgia's aim to integrate into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with both Azerbaijan and the EU.

She also acknowledged the importance of maintaining strong relations with neighboring countries, including Armenia, and expressed Georgia's readiness to support peace efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The historical tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia date back to 1991, with recent developments in 2020 and 2023 altering the geopolitical landscape in the region.
