Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Support Trump’s Gaza Peace Initiative

Baku: Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on Tuesday expressed their support for US President Donald Trump's newly announced plan to bring an end to the nearly two-year conflict in the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement via the US social media company X, emphasizing that a sustainable and just peace hinges on "sincere commitment, mutual trust, and respect for international law."

The Azerbaijani statement highlighted the importance of exchanging prisoners and hostages and addressing the humanitarian needs of the population as essential steps to "pave the way for long-term stabilization and political settlement through building confidence and easing tensions." The statement concluded by asserting that "only through dialogue and goodwill, a long-lasting settlement, with the two-state solution at its core, can be achieved."

In a separate statement on Telegram, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's press secretary, Ruslan Zheldibay, conveyed that Astana perceives Trump's initiative as a 'unique opportunity and a crucial step' toward resolving the Middle Eastern conflict, enhancing interstate trust, and establishing a lasting and just peace in the region.

The support from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan follows Trump's presentation of his Gaza ceasefire plan during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, DC. The 20-point plan includes measures such as the release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a "technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee" to temporarily govern the enclave, among other provisions.
