Ankara: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced on Tuesday that the oil and gas supplied from Azerbaijan to Armenia are pivotal to enhancing Yerevan's energy security. This statement was made during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the German capital.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aliyev highlighted Germany's growing influence in the South Caucasus and the significance of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany in promoting cooperation and peace in the region. He emphasized that the oil and gas products delivered to Armenia are a crucial element of Armenia's energy security infrastructure.

Aliyev also spoke on the strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany, noting the importance of connectivity and transit opportunities, which are underscored by the success of German companies in these areas. He mentioned Azerbaijan's role as a bridge between Central Asia and Europe, a role solidified by its membership in the Central Asia consultative format last year.

In addition, Aliyev revealed that over 200 German companies are operating in Azerbaijan, and there are proposals to expand their operations. He detailed plans for a wide-ranging energy cooperation with Germany, which includes Azerbaijan's supply of natural gas to ten EU member states and future green energy exports to Europe.

During his visit, agreements were signed to strengthen Azerbaijan-Germany bilateral ties, including a strategic agenda and the establishment of an Azerbaijan-Germany Business Council. Aliyev also remarked on the political importance of recent visits by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to Azerbaijan, which are expected to enhance Baku-Brussels relations.

Aliyev's official visit to Berlin commenced late Monday, featuring discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Merz, culminating in the signing of significant bilateral agreements.
