Paris: Bafetimbi Gomis, the celebrated former France striker, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39. The decision marks the end of a remarkable career spanning nearly two decades, during which Gomis made significant contributions to several top-tier clubs across Europe and beyond. Despite hanging up his boots, Gomis has expressed an enduring connection to the sport, stating that football will continue to be an integral part of his life. According to Anadolu Agency, Gomis shared his thoughts on retirement with DAZN, a British over-the-top sports streaming and entertainment platform. "It wasn't an easy decision. My heart is still there and football will continue to flow through my veins," Gomis said. He also hinted at future involvement in football-related projects, indicating that he intends to remain connected to the sport in new capacities. Gomis's illustrious career began in 2004 with Saint-Etienne, followed by stints at prominent clubs such as Troyes, Olympique Lyon, Sw ansea City, Olympique Marseille, Galatasaray, Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, and Japan's Kawasaki Frontale. His time at Galatasaray was particularly noteworthy, where he secured two Turkish Super Lig titles in 2018 and 2023. During the 2017-18 season, Gomis emerged as the top scorer in the Turkish top-flight division, netting an impressive 29 goals. In addition to his club successes, Gomis also made his mark on the international stage with 12 caps for the French national team, scoring three goals. His contributions to both club and country have left a lasting legacy in the world of football.
