Manama: Air raid sirens echoed throughout Bahrain early Monday, following the activation of a nationwide alarm by the country's Interior Ministry, which urged residents to seek shelter. "The alarm siren has been activated. We urge citizens and residents to remain calm, head to the nearest safe location, and follow updates through official channels," the ministry stated. The sirens sounded again later, with officials reiterating calls for calm and shelter.
According to Anadolu Agency, Iran announced it was targeting sites in the Gulf nation. Concurrently, reports from flight-tracking services and social media suggested that Jordan had suspended flights in response to missile attacks, though Jordanian authorities had not confirmed the suspension at the time.
The region has seen a rise in tensions following a series of exchanges between US and Iranian forces. Iran claimed on Sunday that it had attacked US military sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, and Oman in retaliation for US assaults on Iranian positions.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) noted that its recent strikes aimed to diminish Iran's capacity to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM later announced a new wave of offensive actions against Iran, targeting "dozens of locations with precision munitions" to further curtail Iran's potential threats to maritime traffic in the vital passage.
