Manama: As many as 41 members of a group linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were arrested in Bahrain, the country's Interior Ministry announced. The arrests were carried out following security reports and investigations conducted by public prosecutors focusing on cases of espionage and foreign interference.

According to Anadolu Agency, legal procedures against the detainees are currently ongoing. Authorities are continuing their search and investigation operations to identify and apprehend anyone proven to be involved in the activities of this organization or in acts that violate the law.

Bahraini authorities had previously arrested individuals they claimed were connected to the IRGC. This comes amid heightened regional tensions initiated by US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. In retaliation, Tehran launched strikes against Israel and US allies in the Gulf and closed the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was brokered on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, though talks in Islamabad did not yield a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended by then-President Trump without a fixed deadline, opening the door for further diplomatic efforts.
