Bahrain King Orders More Citizenship Revocations Over Support for Iran Attacks

Manama: Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has directed authorities to revoke the citizenship of additional individuals accused of supporting Iranian attacks on the country. This decision follows an earlier announcement that the citizenship of 69 people, including families, was stripped for sympathizing with and praising such attacks.

According to Anadolu Agency, the king's remarks, reported by the Bahrain News Agency, referred to Iranian aggression as a threat to Bahrain's security, stability, and public safety. King Hamad criticized those who he claimed have aligned with this aggression, questioning the loyalty of some lawmakers who opposed legislation related to revoking citizenship from those accused of supporting Iranian actions.

The king called on Iran to cease interfering in Bahrain's internal affairs and criticized what he described as the alignment of some lawmakers with traitors. He emphasized that citizenship is a covenant and those who break it will forfeit it. The king also mentioned that Gulf Cooperation Council countries support measures against those accused of treason, including imprisonment and citizenship revocation.

Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, the speaker of Bahrain's parliament, expressed support for the king's remarks. He stated that the parliament does not honor members who justify actions harmful to the country's interests. Bahrain's High Criminal Court recently held a session for defendants accused of promoting and praising Iranian terrorist acts.

Iran's attacks on Bahrain and other Arab countries were in response to a military campaign by Israel and the United States against Iran. Some strikes hit civilian sites, causing casualties and damage, which led to condemnation from the affected countries.
