Ankara: Bahraini and Kuwaiti officials condemned Iranian attacks targeting their territories earlier in the day.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Bahraini Foreign Ministry stated that the Iranian attacks on the two Gulf nations represent "a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the two countries" and a "threat to the security and stability" of the Gulf region. The ministry noted that the missiles were intercepted successfully and accused Iran of violating UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemns Iranian attacks and any attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt international maritime navigation.
Manama urged Tehran to cease the attacks, fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions, disclose the locations of naval mines, and facilitate the safe departure of over 20,000 stranded sailors. The ministry emphasized that Bahrain's patience should not be seen as weakness and asserted that the defense of its sovereignty is a red line. Bahrain pledged to take all legitimate measures to protect its security.
Bahrain's Defense Force announced via US social media company X that it intercepted and destroyed three Iranian missiles and several drones during the attacks.
In a separate statement on X, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry described the attacks as a dangerous escalation that reveals a hostile approach toward neighboring countries. The ministry expressed Kuwait's solidarity with Bahrain, noting that the attacks undermine opportunities for de-escalation and increase regional tension.
Earlier, the Kuwaiti army reported that its air defense forces were responding to missile and drone threats. Regional tensions have heightened following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran in late February, which led to retaliatory attacks and increased instability.
Iran launched strikes against Israel and targeted countries hosting US military bases, disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Although a ceasefire was implemented, diplomatic efforts for a broader agreement continue.
