Manama: Bahrain and Qatar reported successful interceptions of more than 170 Iranian missiles and dozens of drones over a span of three days, as tensions continue to escalate following Tehran's response to the ongoing Israeli-US military campaign in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Bahrain Defense Force announced that its air defense systems effectively neutralized 70 missiles and 76 drones launched from Iran since the commencement of attacks on Saturday. The Bahraini military emphasized its commitment to confronting these Iranian offensives, which have caused material damage to civilian property and infrastructure. The attacks were described as violations of international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter, with Bahrain reaffirming its right to defend its sovereignty and security.
Early Tuesday, Bahrain's Interior Ministry advised citizens to seek safety after air raid sirens were activated. Reports from Arab media, including Al Arabiya, indicated that Iranian aerial targets were intercepted over Manama, the capital, where explosions were reportedly heard.
In a separate statement, Qatar's Defense Ministry disclosed the detection of three cruise missiles, 101 ballistic missiles, and 39 suicide drones directed at its airspace. The ministry confirmed the interception of all missiles and 24 drones but did not provide details on the impact of the remaining drones. The Qatari forces responded to the threats in line with a pre-established operational plan, asserting the country's ability to protect its sovereignty and territory.
Qatar also urged its citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm, adhere to security instructions, and prioritize official communications over rumors.
The developments come as nine Arab countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, report damages linked to Iran's retaliation against Israeli and American actions. The military strikes initiated by Israel and the US resulted in the death of senior Iranian security officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and significant casualties.
Tehran has launched several missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US-associated sites across the region, some of which have led to civilian damages, drawing condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
