Manama: A Bahraini court has sentenced three individuals, including a woman, to life imprisonment for coordinating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to execute hostile acts against the kingdom, as reported by the state news agency BNA. The verdicts were announced by Bahrain’s High Criminal Court in two separate cases, with the woman’s conviction being declared later.
According to Anadolu Agency, the woman received a life sentence after being found guilty of communicating with the IRGC, deemed a “terrorist organization,” intending to harm Bahrain’s national interests. The court also ordered the confiscation of seized materials related to the case. The investigation began after authorities identified a social media account allegedly posting sensitive information about vital locations in Bahrain.
The woman was convicted of sharing content harmful to Bahrain’s military, political, and economic standing. The account also reportedly contained material promoting Iranian attacks on the kingdom. BNA reported that during questioning, the woman admitted to using her social media platform to aid what authorities termed as aggressors by sharing images and coordinates of critical sites, potentially marking them as targets.
Previously, two other individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring with the IRGC to execute “terrorist and hostile acts” against Bahrain. The court also addressed four separate cases involving acts of violence and sabotage linked to Iranian attacks on Bahrain in March. Those convicted received sentences of up to five years and were fined 500 Bahraini dinars each.
These rulings are part of broader security measures taken by Bahraini authorities against individuals accused of supporting Iran. Bahrain’s Interior Ministry recently announced the dismantling of a group linked to Iran’s IRGC, resulting in 41 arrests. Earlier, Bahrain revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals, accusing them of supporting Iranian attacks. Additionally, Bahraini media reported the removal of three lawmakers from parliament for allegedly supporting defendants accused of praising Iranian actions.
Iran’s actions, including missile and drone attacks, targeted Bahrain and other Arab nations in response to Israeli and US strikes between February 28 and April 8.
