Biman Bangladesh Airlines Signs Deal to Acquire 10 Airbus Aircraft

Dhaka:Bangladesh's national carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, has entered into an agreement to purchase 10 aircraft from European manufacturer Airbus.

According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement includes four Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft for long-haul international operations and six A321neo single-aisle aircraft for regional routes. These aircraft are expected to be integrated into Biman's fleet around 2033.

The deal represents a significant advancement in Biman's fleet modernization and long-term growth strategy. The EU ambassador to Bangladesh highlighted the agreement as a strategic move in strengthening Bangladesh's commercial and investment relations with Europe, emphasizing international competitiveness, innovation, and reliability.

Airbus Executive Vice President for Sales, Benoit de Saint-Exupery, noted that the combination of the A350 and A321neo aircraft will enhance Biman's fleet strategy, aiding in the expansion to new international destinations and meeting increasing demand across its network. Bangladesh's Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, stated that the acquisition would further strengthen Biman's fleet, route network, and operational capabilities.

Currently, none of Biman's 19 operational aircraft are manufactured by Airbus. In addition, the national carrier recently ordered 11 more Boeing aircraft, bringing its total Boeing orders for the year to 25. This latest order includes five 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8 jets.
