Accra: The Board of Peace urged Israel and Hamas on Monday to fulfill their obligations under the agreed Gaza ceasefire framework, emphasizing that further progress depends on compliance by both sides.

According to Anadolu Agency, the board released a statement on the US social media company X, highlighting that "continued progress towards implementation in full depends on each side fulfilling its obligations under the agreed framework." This statement came after a meeting between the board's lead envoy for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to decommission weapons in Gaza, transition to civilian governance, and create "a safer future in the region for both Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza," the board noted. They described the meeting as "constructive and detailed," underscoring the shared goals between Israel and the Board of Peace for complete decommissioning of weapons in Gaza and moving away from governance by force.

Achieving these goals "will be a process," the board acknowledged, with further details to be outlined in the next phase. They addressed reports regarding the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), stating that the full withdrawal beyond the Yellow Line would occur only after the decommissioning is complete, as committed by Hamas to the mediators. This applies to all forms of weaponry and tunnels within the region.

Oversight of the implementation will be managed by the International Stabilisation Force and the Implementation Verification Committee, with representation from both the US and the Board of Peace. Last Friday, the board released a draft agreement detailing the principles and mechanisms for the next phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza plan, which includes security, administrative, and transitional arrangements, along with a proposed political track for the enclave.
