Bolsonaro Holds Narrow Lead Over Lula Ahead of Brazilian Presidential Runoff

Brasília:On the eve of the presidential runoff in Brazil, Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro has a slight edge over President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The BTG/Nexus poll shows Bolsonaro leading with 50.5% compared to Lula's 49.5%.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, another poll conducted by CNT/MDA and published by Brazilian news outlet Poder360 places Bolsonaro at 50.7%, ahead of Lula's 49.3%. This 1.4-percentage-point lead falls within the survey's margin of error.

The CNT/MDA survey, commissioned by the National Transport Confederation, involved interviews with 2,032 voters between October 21 and 23. These polls reflect voter intentions ahead of the decisive runoff, though interpretations must consider the methodologies and margins of error.

In earlier voting intentions, Bolsonaro garnered 46.3%, Lula 45%, with 2.9% of voters undecided. During the first round of elections on October 4, Bolsonaro received 47.03% of valid votes, while Lula obtained 45.16%, as reported by Poder360.

The upcoming runoff will see Lula, who resumed office in 2023, facing Bolsonaro, a prominent figure in Brazil's right-wing movement and son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The runoff is necessary as no candidate secured more than half of the valid votes in the first round.
