Brasilia: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a discussion about bilateral relations and pressing global issues, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, during a call on Thursday. Lula announced via US social media platform X that he plans to visit India from February 19 to 21.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two leaders exchanged views on the current global scenario and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace in Gaza and globally, alongside a shared dedication to multilateralism and democracy. Modi emphasized the robust progress within the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, which he believes is poised to reach new heights in the coming year.

Modi also highlighted the importance of close cooperation between the two nations in advancing the shared interests of the Global South. He expressed his anticipation of welcoming Lula to India soon. Brazil, being India's largest trading partner in Latin America, reached a trade volume of $12.54 billion in 2024, and both countries are pivotal members of the BRICS economic group.
