Kyiv: British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy arrived in Ukraine's capital Kyiv, attending a forum to mark the first anniversary of a 100-year partnership agreement between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lammy's arrival was announced by Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Valerii Zaluzhnyi. Zaluzhnyi welcomed Lammy and described his visit as a testament to the ongoing cooperation between London and Kyiv. He mentioned that the Centennial Partnership Forum, co-hosted by both countries, would focus on future cooperation in areas such as the economy, reconstruction, and education, with an emphasis on security.

Zaluzhnyi expressed gratitude to the UK for its support and proactive stance in defending Ukraine's interests. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha later announced on social media platform X that he and Lammy had launched the 100-Year Partnership Forum. Sybiha highlighted the reaffirmation of the strategic partnership based on shared values, security, and a vision for a secure Europe.

During his visit, Lammy also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy noted that their discussions included Russian airstrikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and strategies to enhance protection against them. He conveyed appreciation for the UK's provision of an energy support package, emphasizing its timely significance.

Lammy's visit coincided with the first anniversary of the "100-Year Partnership" agreement between Ukraine and the UK, aimed at enhancing defense cooperation and addressing maritime security challenges. This agreement was initially signed during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Ukraine in July 2024.

Earlier in the day, the UK announced an additional £20 million ($27 million) in support for Ukraine's energy infrastructure, aimed at strengthening Ukrainian energy security in response to ongoing Russian attacks on its energy sector.
