Moscow: Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traore on Saturday expressed his desire for an 'exponential' expansion of relations with Russia, seeking new areas of cooperation during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Traore emphasized the importance of technological support and knowledge exchange from Russia as key components of this burgeoning relationship.

According to Anadolu Agency, Traore articulated his vision for the bilateral relationship, stating, 'We would like cooperation between us to develop exponentially and take on new forms.' He highlighted the need for extensive work, particularly in the realms of technology and experience transfer, to achieve the desired growth in cooperation.

In response, Putin acknowledged the modest but increasing trade volume between the two nations as a positive trend. He called for collaborative efforts to further strengthen economic ties and diversify mutual trade. Additionally, Putin underscored Russia's ongoing humanitarian support to Burkina Faso, noting the provision of 25,000 tons of wheat last year, with more food products set to arrive in Ouagadougou soon.

Traore also recognized Russia's significant role on the international stage, despite facing sanctions from various countries. He acknowledged Russia's prominent position in global affairs, which Burkina Faso considers in its diplomatic engagements. The West African leader's visit to Moscow included participation in the Victory Parade on Red Square, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
