Canada posts $684M trade surplus in July

ISTANBUL: Canada saw a $684 million trade surplus in July, according to the country's statistical agency on Wednesday. The North American country's merchandise exports decreased 0.4% in June, while merchandise imports fell at a higher rate of 1.7%, the statistical agency said in a statement. The market expectation was to show a trade deficit of around $0.7 billion, while the trade deficit figure for June was revised to $0.18 billion from a surplus of approximately $0.64 billion. In July, total exports were down 0.4%, after a strong increase of 4.7% in June. "Following a record $66.1 billion in June, total imports decreased 1.7% in July to $65.0 billion," said the statement.
