Calgary: A Calgary man has been charged after allegedly posting threats to kill Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on YouTube, according to media reports on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, citing a release by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), an Alberta news outlet said the RCMP's Federal Policing Northwest Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, or INSET, received a tip on July 28 that a YouTube account had posted threats against the prime minister's life.

Working with the Calgary Police Service, the unit arrested and charged Jamie Dacosta, 31, with uttering a threat to cause death, according to reports, adding that authorities did not identify the account, disclose when the alleged threats were posted, or confirm it belonged to Dacosta.

A CTV News report noted that Dacosta is being held in custody and was due to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Tuesday.
