Car Crashes into Crowd of Rugby Fans Injuring Ten in Newcastle

Newcastle:Ten individuals, including three children, were injured when a car crashed into a crowd of rugby league fans in Newcastle, Australia. The incident took place at around 9.30 am local time on Newcastle Link Road in the suburb of Wallsend, where fans had gathered to bid farewell to the Newcastle Knights ahead of the National Rugby League Grand Final on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the driver, an 18-year-old, was arrested at the scene and later charged with multiple offenses, including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. His provisional driver's license was suspended, and he is scheduled to appear in Newcastle Bail Court on Sunday.

A 5-year-old girl is in critical but stable condition, while a 67-year-old man is in serious but stable condition. Four others remain hospitalized in stable condition, and four have been discharged.

Newcastle Lord Mayor Gavin Morris indicated that the driver was a supporter of the team and had been revving the vehicle before losing control. "He was revving the car, he was excited, he was a supporter, he was there for the joy of the moment," Morris said to ABC. "Somehow he lost control of the car ... and he's gone into the crowd."

Police have stated that the incident is not believed to be a targeted attack.
