Philadelphia: Multiple casualties have been reported after a small plane crashed in a residential area in the US city of Philadelphia. The aircraft, an air ambulance, took off from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport and went down immediately around 6:30 p.m. local time (2330GMT), resulting in multiple fires.

According to Anadolu Agency, there were six people onboard the plane, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The passengers included four crew members, a pediatric patient-a girl returning to Mexico after receiving treatment for a life-threatening illness-and her mother. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the company that owns the jet, stated that no names will be released until family members have been notified. Shriners Hospitals for Children, where the girl was treated, confirmed that she and her mother were on the plane.

Additionally, six people who were on the ground during the crash were hospitalized. Three of these individuals remain in the hospital, while the other three have been released, according to NBC. Mayor Cherelle Parker mentioned that first responders are still searching a large area, and officials have not yet confirmed the number of fatalities. She urged residents to avoid the scene.

Emergency teams responded promptly to the crash site, where witnesses reported hearing loud explosions and observing multiple vehicles on fire. A team of trained Red Cross disaster workers is on-site to assist those displaced by the crash, and shelter access is available for anyone in need.

US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences on Truth Social, stating, "So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More innocent souls lost." The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation into the crash. An NTSB investigator arrived late Friday, with additional team members scheduled to arrive on Saturday.
