Beijing: China on Thursday accused Japan of heightening maritime and air security risks through close-in reconnaissance flights and vessel passages. This accusation follows a statement from Tokyo about a 'near miss' between a Chinese and a Japanese jet over the Pacific, as reported by state media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian addressed reporters in Beijing, emphasizing that Japanese reconnaissance conducted by vessels and aircraft against China's regular military activities is the core cause of these security risks. Lin urged Japan to halt such activities, which China deems dangerous.

On Wednesday, Japan's Defense Ministry reported an incident involving a 'near miss' between a Chinese fighter jet and a Japanese military patrol plane over the Pacific Ocean. The Chinese aircraft reportedly approached as close as 45 meters (nearly 148 feet) to the Japanese Self-Defense Forces patrol plane, having taken off from a moving aircraft carrier.

Lin asserted that China's operations in the maritime and airspace in question adhere strictly to international law and standards. He further mentioned that the defense departments of both nations continue to maintain communication through established channels.
