Brussels: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has emphasized the importance of China and the European Union (EU) serving as "anchors of stability" in the global landscape, highlighting the need for a robust and mutually beneficial partnership between the two entities. Wang's comments were made in anticipation of his upcoming meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa and a strategic dialogue with the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, scheduled to take place in Brussels.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi, during his meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. In light of the current international dynamics, Wang stressed the necessity for both parties to embrace partnership and cooperation. He advocated for strengthening communication, enhancing understanding, building mutual trust, and jointly safeguarding multilateralism and the free trade system.

Despite the differing perspectives between Europe and China, Prime Minister De Wever expressed a willingness to enhance exchanges and mutual trust amid the complex geopolitical environment. He reiterated Belgium's commitment to multilateralism and supported Europe's pursuit of strengthening its autonomy. De Wever also expressed optimism regarding the outcomes of the upcoming EU-China leaders' meeting.
