Beijing: China on Thursday called for win-win cooperation to promote stable and healthy development of economic and trade relations under returning US President Donald Trump, according to Chinese state media.
According to Anadolu Agency, China's Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong emphasized the importance of adhering to principles such as mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. He highlighted the need for both countries to strengthen dialogue and communication, manage differences appropriately, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. These efforts aim to promote the stable and healthy development of China-US economic and trade relations.
He Yadong reiterated that achieving win-win and mutually beneficial results is the cornerstone of China-US economic ties. He assured that the ministry has maintained consistent communication with US authorities. The spokesperson's comments came in response to media inquiries about an executive order signed by Trump on his first day in office. The order, while not directly imposing additional tariffs on China, instructed federal agencies to address trade-related matters, including evaluating the implementation of the phase one China-US trade deal.
Addressing tariff issues, He Yadong stated that China has consistently opposed potential US tariffs, as they are detrimental to China, the US, and the global community. This follows Trump's earlier promise to impose new tariffs on China and other nations during his first presidential term from 2017 to 2021.
Regarding the US' suspended ban on the popular short video platform TikTok, He Yadong expressed hope that the US would consider the perspectives of enterprises and the public. He called for a fair and just business environment for international enterprises, including Chinese companies, in the US. Trump's request to suspend the TikTok ban reflects his intention to negotiate a solution that allows the app to remain available in the US. The ban was initially passed by the US Congress due to security concerns related to the Chinese-owned app.
