China Calls for Protection of Palestinian Rights in Post-Conflict Governance

Beijing: China on Monday emphasized the necessity of ensuring the legitimate national rights of Palestine in the context of post-conflict governance. "The principle of Palestinians governing Palestine must be implemented, and the legitimate national rights of Palestine should be ensured in the post-conflict governance and reconstruction arrangement, the two-state solution must be upheld," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun articulated during a news conference held in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, Guo further stated, "Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people, and is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory." He stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and highlighted the humanitarian crisis, urging nations with significant influence over Israel to assume their responsibilities. Guo also conveyed China's readiness to collaborate with the international community to maintain efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza and support the Palestinian quest for legitimate national rights, aiming for a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the conflict.

In a related development, on Sunday, the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal formally recognized Palestine, increasing the number of UN member states that have done so to 153 out of 193. Additionally, eleven other countries, including Malta, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, and Armenia, announced their intentions to recognize Palestine during the UN General Assembly's 80th session in New York, where global leaders are set to gather for the high-level debate starting Monday.

UN investigators have recently determined that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, where an estimated 65,300 individuals have lost their lives since October 2023.
