Beijing: China said on Thursday that the US must 'earnestly fulfill its special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament.'
According to Anadolu Agency, during a regular press conference, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian urged the US to 'significantly and substantially reduce its nuclear arsenal.' He emphasized that China maintains a no first use policy regarding nuclear weapons and adheres to a nuclear strategy focused on self-defense, keeping its nuclear forces at the minimum level necessary for national security.
Wu Qian highlighted China's commitment to maintaining international peace and security and suggested that the US should also consider reducing its military spending. The spokesperson addressed the Taiwan issue, firmly opposing any form of official exchanges and military contacts between the US and the Taiwan region of China.
He stressed that Taiwan's situation is an internal affair of China and does not permit external interference. Wu Qian stated that Beijing opposes any form of military contact between the United States and Taiwan and warned that China will never promise to renounce the use of force in Taiwan's reunification with Beijing.
