Beijing: China on Wednesday condemned “non-discriminatory” attacks against civilians and expressed disapproval of strikes targeting the Gulf region. Beijing “does not agree with attacks against countries in the Gulf region and condemns non-discriminatory attacks against civilians or non-military targets,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said during a regular news conference in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, the spokesperson emphasized the urgent need to halt military operations and prevent further escalation of the conflict. Guo Jiakun highlighted dialogue and negotiation as the pathways to restoring peace in the region. He also criticized the actions of the US and Israel, labeling their attacks on Iran during ongoing negotiations as a “clear violation” of international law.

Guo reiterated the importance of respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries involved. In a recent conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, China’s top diplomat Wang Yi expressed confidence that Iran would maintain stability while addressing the concerns of neighboring countries amidst the current complex situation.

The regional tensions have intensified since February 28, when a joint attack by Israel and the US against Iran resulted in over 1,200 deaths and left another 10,000 injured. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
