Beijing: China on Saturday criticized the United States for its recent military actions against Venezuela, labeling them as 'hegemonic acts' and urging Washington to comply with the United Nations Charter. The condemnation follows reports of military strikes and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to Anadolu Agency, a spokesperson from China's Foreign Ministry expressed deep shock and strong condemnation over the US's use of force against a sovereign nation and its actions targeting President Maduro. The spokesperson emphasized that such actions represent a serious violation of international law and Venezuela's sovereignty, posing threats to peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Chinese official called on the United States to respect international law and the principles outlined in the UN Charter, urging an end to actions that undermine the sovereignty and security of other nations.

The US military strikes reportedly targeted both civilian and military installations across multiple states in Venezuela. This escalation follows a period of heightened tensions, with the US accusing Maduro of participating in drug trafficking activities-allegations that Maduro has consistently denied while expressing a willingness to engage in dialogue.

In response to the unfolding situation, China's Foreign Ministry, alongside the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela, has issued advisories urging Chinese citizens to temporarily avoid traveling to Venezuela. Chinese nationals and institutions currently in the country have been advised to closely monitor the security environment, enhance safety measures, and minimize unnecessary outings.
