Beijing: China said on Thursday that Japan's unrestrained space development is 'extremely dangerous' and accelerates the militarization of space, Global Times reported. 'Maintaining lasting peace and security in space is vital to the security, development, and prosperity of all nations,' Zhang Xiaogang told a news conference in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zhang highlighted Japan's development of satellite-jamming technology as a catalyst accelerating the weaponization and militarization of space, fueling what he termed a space arms race. He described these actions as extremely dangerous and unpopular.

Zhang further noted the historical precedent of Japan's military actions, referencing the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, to illustrate the growing concerns over Japan's current offensive space policy. He urged peace-loving nations and peoples to act against the revival of militarism led by Japan's right-wing forces, as reported by state news agency Xinhua.

He also warned of an increasingly visible and dangerous tendency towards militarism in Japan, stating that China will take decisive countermeasures against any harassment or provocations. These comments come amid heightened tensions between China and Japan, following remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan.

Takaichi's statement, suggesting such an attack could constitute a 'survival-threatening situation' and justify Japan's right to collective self-defense, has sparked backlash from Beijing. In response, China has advised against travel to Japan and reinstated a ban on imports of seafood, among other measures.
