Beijing: China's national legislature has announced the designation of October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration. The decision was made during a session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), which commenced on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decision aims to protect the outcomes of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the post-war international order. It also seeks to emphasize China's commitment to the one-China principle while defending national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The communique from the meeting highlighted the importance of reinforcing the shared national memory among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Following the conclusion of World War II, Japan returned Taiwan and Penghu to China, reversing the 1895 cession of these territories to Japan by the Qing government. The NPC's decision underscores the restoration of Taiwan as evidence of the Chinese government's recovery of sovereignty over Taiwan. It is also a part of the historical and legal framework asserting Taiwan as an integral part of China.
