Shanghai: China has detected cases of norovirus at a school in the coastal city of Shanghai, state media reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, the cases were detected after some students at a middle school in the Fengxian district experienced nausea and vomiting. Subsequent epidemiological investigations confirmed that the illness was due to the norovirus.

The district health authority has reported that treatment for the affected individuals is underway, and the situation remains stable, with no severe cases reported. Additionally, the local education authority stated that with spring being a peak season for infectious diseases, the school will enhance preventive measures for students.

Norovirus, also known as "stomach flu" or the "stomach bug," is a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. It leads to acute gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach or intestines.
