China: China on Thursday expressed its willingness to take on a mediating role to foster peace and stability in South Asia, following renewed tensions between India and Pakistan, as reported by state media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang conveyed China's readiness to maintain regional peace during a press briefing in Beijing. Zhang emphasized the importance of India and Pakistan maintaining calmness and restraint to prevent further escalation. He highlighted that both countries are immovable neighbors, underscoring the necessity for peaceful coexistence.

Addressing inquiries about India's alleged acquisition of the Chinese PL-15E beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile during recent India-Pakistan hostilities, Zhang clarified that the missile is an export product showcased at various defense exhibitions globally.

In another statement, Zhang responded to concerns from the US Indo-Pacific Command regarding China's military exercises related to Taiwan. He asserted that actions to preserve national sovereignty and territorial integrity are justified, while critiquing provocations by Taiwan independence advocates and foreign interference as destabilizing factors.

Zhang also called on Washington to halt actions perceived as supportive of Taiwan's independence, warning that such behavior could backfire. Beijing continues to urge the US to stop its military and official engagements with Taiwan, reiterating its stance against external influence on the Taiwan issue.
