Beijing: China announced its decision to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate with joint US and Israeli attacks on Tehran since February 28.

According to Anadolu Agency, Beijing has emphasized its commitment to humanitarian principles and the vision of a shared global community. Lin Jian, the spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, expressed deep sympathy for the people affected by the conflict, noting the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region, particularly in Iran.

Lin highlighted that China aims to alleviate the humanitarian challenges faced by these nations by providing emergency aid. This move follows Beijing's recent pledge that the Red Cross Society of China would offer $200,000 in emergency assistance to the Iranian Red Crescent. This aid is intended to support the families of over 165 schoolgirls who lost their lives in an airstrike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran, coinciding with the commencement of US and Israeli attacks.

China's Foreign Ministry further stressed its ongoing efforts to advocate for peace and work towards the swift restoration of stability in the region. The aim is to prevent the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis that has already claimed approximately 1,300 lives, including that of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The conflict has intensified following Iran's retaliation with drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and US military bases in the Gulf region, resulting in casualties and infrastructure damage while affecting global markets and aviation.
