China Firmly Opposes US Arms Sales to Taiwan.

Beijing: China on Sunday deplored and "firmly" opposed US arms sales to Taiwan, saying it "seriously" violates the one-China principle and the three Beijing-Washington joint communiques. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Beijing has lodged "serious" protests to the US over the latest arms sales, emphasizing the violation of international agreements and the potential threat to China's sovereignty and security interests. According to Anadolu Agency, Washington on Saturday announced that it has approved $385 million worth of arms sales to Taiwan. The Chinese spokesperson pointed out that this decision undermines the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, particularly highlighting the August 17 Communique of 1982. The arms sales are seen as a contradiction to US leaders' previous commitments of not supporting "Taiwan independence." The Chinese government has urged the US to cease its arms sales to Taiwan and to withdraw its support for "Taiwan independence" separatist forc es. The spokesperson further warned that China will take strong and resolute countermeasures to defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, reflecting the gravity with which Beijing views this development.
