China-India Bilateral Ties Strengthen with High-Level Diplomatic Meetings

Beijing: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted Indian Foreign Affairs Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday, signaling progress in bilateral ties. Wang met with Misri, who is on an official trip to Beijing for consultations with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two-day trip comes after China and India announced a breakthrough last year to resolve the border dispute in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region. Relations had been strained following clashes between their troops in 2020, which resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers.

Wang emphasized the importance of cooperation during the meeting, stating, "China and India should seize the opportunity to meet each other halfway, explore more substantive measures, and commit themselves to mutual understanding, mutual support and mutual achievement, rather than mutual suspicion, alienation and mutual depletion," according to a readout from Beijing.

The improvement and development of China-India relations, Wang noted, aligns with the fundamental interests of both countries and their citizens. He highlighted that this progress benefits the global South countries and contributes to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in Asia and the world.

Misri arrived in Beijing on Sunday and also met with Liu Jianchao, who leads the international department of the Communist Party of China.
