Beijing: China has announced that two senior military officials are under investigation for suspected ‘serious violations of discipline and law,’ as reported by state-run media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), and Liu Zhenli, a member of the CMC and chief of staff of the CMC Joint Staff Department, are the officials being investigated. This information was relayed by Xinhua News Agency, citing a statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

The Central Military Commission, led by President Xi Jinping, is responsible for overseeing the Chinese military. The investigations were initiated following a decision by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the ministry.

The statement from the ministry did not elaborate on the specific nature of the alleged violations. This development is part of a broader anti-corruption purge within China’s military. Last October, Beijing expelled two members of the Central Military Commission as part of disciplinary actions against nine officers linked to corruption-related offenses.

In a related case, former Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu was expelled from the Communist Party in 2024 after being removed from office over bribery allegations.
