Beijing: China’s top market regulator announced the initiation of an investigation into reported chemical risks in baby diapers, specifically examining claims of formamide presence.

According to Anadolu Agency, a joint task force, which includes multiple agencies such as the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, has been established to verify these claims. The regulator confirmed that the team will address any violations in compliance with the law and will release their findings promptly.

This investigation follows an investigative report published last week by the Beijing-based Economic Information Daily, a newspaper under the Xinhua News Agency. The report alleged that some diaper products from brands like Babycare, Huggies, and Bibabebe tested positive for formamide, as reported by Global Times. Formamide is a synthetic compound utilized in certain industrial processes and is considered a reproductive toxicant in some jurisdictions.
