Beijing: China announced its continued commitment to multilateralism following the United States' decision to exit from 66 international organizations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized the critical role of United Nations-centered institutions in maintaining global order.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that the US withdrawal is not unprecedented but emphasized the importance of international organizations in representing the interests of all nations, rather than individual countries. Mao highlighted the role of UN-centered organizations in promoting global peace, socio-economic development, and safeguarding equal rights for all nations.

The remarks from China came after US President Donald Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum directing federal agencies to cease participation in 66 international organizations. The White House described the move as an effort to restore "American sovereignty" and reduce spending on what it deemed ineffective institutions.

Notable among the withdrawals is the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is central to global climate negotiations and the Paris Agreement. The US also plans to end support for the UN Population Fund, which has faced opposition from Republicans for its reproductive health services.

The list of US withdrawals extends beyond the UN to include security, democracy, and regional cooperation bodies, as well as various technical, research, trade, and cultural organizations. These include the Global Counterterrorism Forum, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation.

The US administration cited redundancy, ineffectiveness, or misalignment with national priorities as reasons for the withdrawals, with plans to redirect funding towards domestic and strategic initiatives.
