Ankara: China's foreign minister emphasized on Monday that the relationship between China and Mexico should remain independent of third-party influence, while advocating for enhanced political and economic cooperation with the Latin American nation. Wang Yi made these remarks during discussions in Beijing with Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente Velasco, as reported by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi stated, "China-Mexico relations do not target any third party, nor should they be affected by any third party." This visit marks Velasco's first official trip to China since assuming his role as foreign minister in April. The Chinese Foreign Ministry highlighted that Beijing supports Mexico in preserving its independence, sovereignty, and security, while opposing external interference.

Wang Yi called for stronger high-level exchanges, increased political trust, and deeper cooperation across various sectors between the two countries. Velasco, on his part, reiterated Mexico's commitment to the one-China principle and UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, while promising to enhance practical cooperation with Beijing.

Diplomatic relations between China and Mexico were established on February 14, 1972, and their relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013. China is Mexico's second-largest trading partner globally, while Mexico ranks as China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America, following Brazil. Bilateral trade between the nations reached $109.38 billion in 2025, including $89.16 billion in Chinese exports to Mexico, according to Chinese customs figures cited by the Foreign Ministry.
