Ankara: China has expressed its support for Doha's mediation efforts in the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, as conveyed by Chinese Premier Li Qiang during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

According to Anadolu Agency, Premier Li emphasized China's backing of Qatar's initiatives aimed at resolving Middle East issues. He stated that China is prepared to collaborate with Qatar, regional countries, and the international community to achieve peace and stability in the region. This statement was made during Al Thani's official visit to China, underscoring the strategic partnership between the two nations in the Middle East and Gulf region.

Li highlighted that Qatar is a crucial partner for China, expressing Beijing's willingness to enhance communication and coordination with Doha. He indicated that China is ready to support each other's core interests and strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of both countries' populations. The Premier also welcomed Qatari investments in China and encouraged Chinese enterprises to increase their investments in Qatar to boost two-way economic ties.

According to the Qatar News Agency, the discussions between Al Thani and Li also covered the expansion of cooperation in sectors such as economy, investment, trade, energy, and technology. Both leaders focused on enhancing existing partnerships in areas of mutual interest and discussed significant regional developments.

Al Thani conveyed Qatar's enthusiasm to elevate its relationship with China, aiming to advance cooperation aligned with the shared goals and interests of both nations. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1980, and recent years have seen their bilateral trade volume reach approximately $24 billion.

Qatar is a vital supplier of liquified natural gas to China, accounting for about 30% of China's consumption. However, the ongoing US-Iran conflict has affected global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, impacting Beijing's energy imports from the Middle East.
