Beijing:Beijing has reiterated its call for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, as US President Donald Trump prepares to host Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to Anadolu Agency, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that the prolonged conflict does not benefit the parties involved or the international community. He highlighted the necessity for dialogue and negotiation to restore peace in the Middle East and Gulf region.

Guo's remarks were in response to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's comments at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Pezeshkian stated that Iran would not allow freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as long as sanctions and a US blockade persisted.

The situation remains tense as the US military blockade of Iranian ports continues, while Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, impacting global energy supplies. Pezeshkian argued that Iran cannot permit free access to some via the Strait while those same entities use it to impose aggressions and insecurity on Iran.

President Xi's visit to the US includes summit-level discussions with President Trump, amid these escalating tensions.
