Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the central role of the United Nations during a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Xi highlighted the importance of China and Brazil, as significant members of the Global South, aligning on the right side of history to better advocate for the shared interests of both nations and the Global South, while jointly upholding the UN's central position along with international fairness and justice.

According to Anadolu Agency, Xi's statements were made amid recent comments by US President Donald Trump, who suggested his "Board of Peace" on Gaza could potentially replace the UN. The US administration announced the establishment of this board to play a critical role in achieving the goals outlined in Trump's plan to end the conflict in Gaza and aid in the region's reconstruction and development. Despite invitations to join the board, China did not participate in the signing ceremony held in Davos, Switzerland.

Additionally, Xi expressed China's commitment to maintaining strong relationships as a reliable friend and partner to Latin American and Caribbean countries. He reiterated Beijing's willingness to advance mutually advantageous cooperation with Brazil across various sectors, aiming to further strengthen bilateral relations.
